Over the last few weeks youth from each facet of Austin public safety have been working and training together to create a TeenCERT team.  TeenCERT initially created to arm youth with the knowledge to keep themselves and their friends and family safe in the event of a disaster in their school, neighborhood, or community. The TeenCERT concept is not new. What is new is the idea of a TeenCERT team consisting of youth trained in specific public safety fields coming together to help their community, to our knowledge this concept has never been attempted in the US.  20 youth from the 4 public safety explorer posts attend their last training this Saturday January 26th, at the City of Austin Public Safety Training Center.  The youth will learn about light search and rescue and conduct a tabletop disaster scenario, taught by TxSaR a volunteer non-profit first responder organization based out of Austin.
