On Saturday, May 12th, explorers from Post 247 attended the Officer Padron Family Fundraiser to provide first aid for volunteers and those in attendance.
Central Texas Harley-Davidson teamed up with the Austin Police Department to host this fundraiser, featuring live music performances, BBQ and bake sale, bouncy houses for children, and a motorcycle remembrance ride.
On April 28th, 3 explorers helped staff the 14th Annual Dragon Boat Festival. Along with our amazing advisors, we were prepared to respond to medical emergencies at the event. Continue reading
On February 7th Austin Police Explorer Post 1000 joined the EMS Explorer Post 247 at their weekly meeting. Explorers in Post 247 were scheduled to learn Paramedic-Safety, and the Police Explorers were kind enough to come and teach defense tactics. They covered how to hold a firm, balanced fighting stance, the correct form for basic punches and kicks, and two straightforward methods on how to react when being grabbed by an aggressor. Friday night at COPE was a pivotal teamwork-building experience. From lining up while blindfolded to deciphering sherpa language on a midnight trek through dark forests, we were put to the test and stretched to the limit. The only way to escape victoriously was to work together. So we climbed into the back of a pickup truck and figured out how to do just that — and we succeeded! Continue reading
EMS Explorer Post 247 was privileged to pay a visit to Police Explorer Post 1000 on November 5th to teach them first aid and CPR. Eight EMS explorers were present, seven of which delivered presentations to the attentive audience. Students were educated on scene safety, victim assessment, cuts, bandaging, splinting, cardiac arrest, strokes, and epi pen usage. Continue reading
We, the A/TCEMS Explorer Post 24/7 would like to share a little of what we did to honor the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. We participated in the first aid crew for a stair climb to honor of all those who risked their lives and died in those attacks. We are honored to be asked to provide first aid for this stair climb. Austin/Travis County EMS Explorer Post 247 had the privilege of providing first aid to 440 Boy Scouts at their District Camporee. Five Explorers and four Explorer Post Advisors, along with all the necessary first aid and camping supplies, trucked out to Griffith League Boys Scout Ranch the first weekend in April. The learning process started immediately as the Advisors coached the youth through setting up the tents and cooking area. With a lot of impressive teamwork and good attitudes, all four tents were soon up and the kitchen area was ready. Continue reading
